About ART + LAND works
I create temporary, site specific artworks with the land and document these through photographs. These works function as temporary land marks. They are evidence of my having had a brief and sublime interaction with the land and the present moment. Made with both natural and art materials, my work forms a delicate visual language to describe a personal conversation with nature.
In the studio, I create intricate, hand-made paper cut outs to place into the landscape. I also make use of mirrors, yarn and ink drawings to engage a specific site. Among natural forms, I place art materials and use intuition as a guide. Weather elements, gravity, water and especially wind, often contribute to the dialogue. Often I release control of composing the photographs by not looking into the view finder. I take photographs from multiple angles: around, underneath and above the site.
These creative interactions with the land are brief and intentionally gentle. Through the resulting photographs, I am tracking the fragility, strength, and luminescence I feel in the land. I seek to inspire viewers to connect with the land that holds, creates and sustains all life.
